Safety of cosmetic packaging materials

Update time:2021-06-30Visits:247

Why does the safety of cosmetic packaging materials have such a great impact on the safety of cosmetics? Once the packaging material itself contains excessive toxic and harmful substances, it may be gradually released into the cosmetics in direct contact with it, which will change the quality of cosmetics in a bad direction, and then cause great damage to the human body. This damage is similar to the impact of food on the human body - it will be absorbed by the human body and constitute severe results. Therefore, the opening of the detection of harmful substances in cosmetics packaging materials will be inevitable, and the relevant standards of national food packaging materials are a good study in discussing the relocation of substances in packaging. So where do the toxic and harmful substances that will affect the safety of cosmetics come from?

  1. Additive in packaging. Nowadays, plastic is widely and repeatedly used. Compared with other ceramics, glass and other materials, there is no doubt about its advantages - light weight, high strength, good tolerance and low cost. However, its defects can not be ignored - various functional enhancers and their own degradation. There are many kinds of additives, and the common ones are 1 Filler (change the hardness, wear resistance and standard stability of plastics, commonly used are gypsum, metal powder, paper, wood, etc.)

  2. Plasticizers (strengthen the flexibility, elasticity and fluidity of plastics, commonly used are phthalic acid, epoxy compounds, etc.)

  3. Stabilizer (to prevent aging and degradation, aromatic amines are commonly used)

  4. Many colorants are toxic and harmful substances, such as phthalic acid and amine compounds. These enhancers, coupled with the degraded monomer of the plastic itself, will move into the cosmetics after full contact with the cosmetics, thus burying risks to human health.

The health standard for the use of additives for food containers and packaging materials (GB9685-2008), a regulation on food packaging, lists 959 additives that are allowed to be used, and makes clear rules for their application amount, large residue and specific moving amount. If we can refer to similar standards and establish a limit list of substances used in cosmetics packaging materials, we can greatly reduce the chemical pollution of cosmetics from the source and reduce the damage to human health to a greater extent.

  5. It is the content of heavy metals in packaging. When the human body ingests too many heavy metals, it will cause great damage to health. For example, excessive lead will disturb the composition of heme and affect the intelligence and reproductive system; Long term skin contact with excessive chromium compounds is likely to cause contact dermatitis and eczema; Mercury will affect the central nervous system. In China's current standards for food packaging materials, gb19778-2005 restricts the dissolution of lead, cadmium, arsenic and antimony in food glass (for example, for containers less than 600ml, the dissolution of lead, cadmium, arsenic and antimony are 1.5mg/l, 0.5mg/l, 0.2mg/l and 1.2mg/l respectively), while gb12651-2003 restricts the dissolution of lead, cadmium and antimony in ceramics Cadmium dissolution (the dissolution of lead and cadmium in common cups are 0.5mg/l and 0.25mg/l respectively).

However, apart from ceramic and glass products, cosmetic hoses often contain certain heavy metals in metal packaging, coatings and even paper products - such as tin cans, paper with coatings or adhesives, etc. If the packaging materials come into contact with cosmetics, especially weakly acidic products, they will gradually enter the cosmetics and then be absorbed by the skin; More than that, when the packaging is discarded, the heavy metals contained in it will gradually enter the soil or water, causing extreme damage to our environment. If we can establish the standard of guessing the content of heavy metals in cosmetics packaging materials, it will not only be a great progress for the safety of cosmetics, but also make a contribution to our society and our environment.

Therefore, the research and detection of the potential risks of chemicals contained in cosmetic packaging materials can not only increase the corresponding knowledge storage for the inspection system of cosmetic quality and quantity, but also add a powerful barrier to people's health, safety and environmental protection.
